Michael Jackson and Ronald Reagan

In 1984 Reagan wrote a letter to Michael Jackson, who had suffered an accident that burned his scalp. In the letter, the then President expressed his feelings, his affection and his admiration for Michael, both for the artist and for the person, whom he described as “of deep faith in God” and of “adherence to traditional values”.

“Dear Michael,

I was happy to hear that you were not seriously injured in your recent accident. I know from experience that these things can happen on the set — no matter how much care is exercised. Across America, millions of people look to you as an example. Their deep faith in God and adherence to traditional values are an inspiration to all of us, especially young people who are looking for something real to believe in. You have won a large number of fans along the way since “I Want You Back” and Nancy and I are among them. Keep up the good work, Michael. We are very happy for you.

Ronald Reagan ”

In the same year, Reagan personally met Michael at the White House. The President honored him for his voluntary work for drug and alcohol addicts and for conquering the world of music without alcohol and drugs, thanked him for giving up Beat It to government propaganda for awareness against alcoholism among young people and o awarded the Presidential Praise for Public Security:

“At this point in his career, where he has achieved everything an artist wants, Michael Jackson is dedicating his time to help in the fight against alcohol and drug use. (…) Thanks for your help, Michael. (…) Lives will be saved, and no one can put dollars as the value of a boy or girl’s precious life. Michael Jackson is proof that a person can achieve anything they want free of drugs or alcohol. ”

This article has no intention on saying Michael Jackson would vote for Ronald Reagan or Republican Party — even because Michael did not position politically — but show that he was full of faith and traditional and moral values — and not a socialist militant as some people imagine — , even recognized by the one of the most loved men in conservatism history: Ronald Reagan.
